Claudia Practice

I first started by completing the base make-up and I used white foundation base and grey and white powder to create this pale almost ghost like complexion.

I completed the rest of the beauty make-up and did the bruising but as you can tell the bruising was not dramatic enough to show up well on camera. Also I felt that more eyeliner and mascara was needed to complete the look.

I think using more eyeliner and mascara worked well to define the eyes so that the viewers attention was still on them and wasn't completely distracted by the bruising and blood. I think this would be important in a television programme as the eyes are used a lot in acting, I made the bruising darker so it shows up on camera and added blood to make them look like fresh wounds. I also used a medium mixer to create sweat around the forehead but this did not show up as well so I then used lipgloss and the shine from it made the sweat stand out more. I also used some under the eyes to try and look like Claudia's eyes had been watering when she was running away from or fighting Mrs Laderman. I also used more grey under the eyes to try and make Claudia sleep deprived and I tried to make her complexion look unhealthy as it would be if she had been inside all the time until being lured out by Mrs Laderman. I am also going to do bruising and red marks on Claudia's arms to make it look like she has been in a fight with Mrs Laderman. I was originally going to use a purple dress for Claudia to wear but I found a blue dress which I think the style of would fit in better with The Vampire Diaries so I am going to change the colour of the eye shadow to more blue and grey tones to match this.

I was pleased with the shape of the curls and the shape of the hair around the face as I think it frames the face nicely. However I am going to use more grips and back comb the hair more to make the design more secure. I am also going to hide the grips by placing the top layer of curls over them which I also think will create a nice shape,

Mrs Laderman Designs

This was my original design. I like the pale face and grey and brown tones for contouring as they create a dramatic look and they are similar to the tones used on many characters skin in The Vampire Diaries, However I think the contouring is too harsh and the colours of the eye and lip make-up do not really fit in with the make-up colour schemes from the show. I had done them dramatic colours to show that Mrs Laderman is different in some way to the other characters and used blue to show she is cold hearted. However I don't think the look would fit in with the show.

In this design I used softer contouring and used it all over the face, I think in my final design I will focus the contouring on the outside of the face to give the make-up a slightly un-even balance of contouring and therefore make Mrs Laderman's skin look a bit unreal. I think the brown is too soft for the eye shadow so I am going to try using black instead and I am also going to use more eyeliner to draw attention to the eyes. I much prefer the lip colour. Although red is not used a lot in the show on lips I think it works well to represent that Mrs Laderman is different from the other characters. Also I like the sophisticated look that it gives as this is how I see Mrs Laderman: sophisticated and sinister.

I think the black eyeshadow works well to make the eyes look dramatic and works better than the brown in my previous design. I am going to make the edges of the eyeshadow softer though and use grey and white tones to give a more dramatic look. I tried using darker tones of lipstick on the outer corners but I prefer the original red shade on its own and also this tone is a lot easier to replicate if I need to do so in the future. I also used red under the eyes to try and make Mrs Laderman's make-up different from the other characters on the show but I don't think it fits in with the overall look of the show. I think adding the red is a bit too fantasy like and I want it to look like Mrs Laderman would fit in well into everyday life.

This is my final make-up design. I think the look works well as a whole t create the character of Mrs Laderman. I know that the make-up is different in some ways to how a lot of the characters on The Vampire diaries have theres but I wanted to do this to show that Mrs Laderman is different to them all and that she is against all of them. Its mainly the colour scheme that is a bit different to the show as the style of make-up I think does fit in with the show.

In this design I wanted the hair to be dramatic and wanted the look to be strong like Mrs Laderman's character. However I am going to be shooting outside and so the wind would cause the hair to move anyway so I think the design needs to be something that would look better in the wind.

I like how the hair is off the face in this design and as it's pulled back it makes the look very serve which I like. However I don't think this type of hairstyle fits that well into the overall look of the show as the hair for a lot of the characters is very soft with most of the hair down.

I think this look works the best for Mrs Laderman to create the sophisticated look I was aiming to make. However my models hair is very long with layers and so I think it would look good if the hair was curled instead of completely straight.

This is my final hair design and I think the style will work better with the hair curled. I am pleased with the look and I think the hair to one side will work well for the poses I am planning for my model to stand in so I am happy with  my design.

Claudia Designs

This was my first make-up design for Claudia. I did the style of the make-up similar to the main characters in The Vampire Diaries but used different colours to try and show that Claudia is different to them. However I don't think the colours work very well to fit in with the show and so I have decided to use similar colours to those used in the show because my idea is that Claudia would see the girls walk past her house and copy their make-up.

I had another idea of showing Claudia as if she has just found out Mrs Ladermans evil side and has been fighting with her. I think this could work well to create a dramatic look and I could use some of the techniques for make-up that I have learned in lectures. I think the colours for the make-up look better than in my previous design but they still need work on.

I did this design to finalise the make-up colours for my Claudia look. I think these colours fit in a lot better to the colour scheme of the show so I am going to use them and incorporate the burns and bruises from my previous design.

This is my final design for Claudia. I think the look works well and would fit into the Vampire Diaries. I made a mistake when completing the lips and should of used the pink/grey colour that is in my previous design. I think the look works well to show that Claudia is bruised and scared after being in a fight with Mrs Laderman.

I like the way the hair is pulled back in this design as it will not hide any of the make-up which I want to be fully on show so that the bruising on the side of the forehead can be seen. I don't think having all of the hair up works though as a lot of the characters on the show have their hair down and I think this would work better as this design looks a bit too mature for Claudia.

I think the curled hair works well in this design but I am not sure if the way the hair is tied at the back of the hair works to create the look I want for Claudia.
I like the way the hair looks a bit dishevelled in this design as it would do if Claudia had been fighting and running away from Mrs Laderman. Also this look would fit in the best with the hairstyles from the show but I think I prefer the designs where the hair is out of the face as I don't want any of the make-up to be covered.

This is my final design. I tried the look with the hair straight and curled and I feel the curled hair will work better to create a more dynamic look. The style of the curls is different to a lot of the curled hairstyles in The Vampire Diaries but I did this to show that Claudia is different to the other characters but I still think the overall look would fit in with the show. I am going to do the curls a bit dishevelled as if Claudia had been running and so they are a bit wind swepped. However I am going to keep the front of the hair quite sleek with a strong shape as I want to show that Claudia is strong and can take on Mrs Laderman. Also in a lot of shows the main character runs miles through all sorts of terrain and still has almost perfect hair so if they can have nice hair whilst fighting evil I think Claudia should be allowed to as well.

Gothic horror today

Gothic horror is still very popular today it influences films, fashion and art some example of which can be seen below.

In music videos there are often elements of gothic horror such as the feeling of being trapped, humans becoming supernatural, the main character being vulnerable:

In films, gothic and horror themes are still popular today and help to create blockbuster Hollywood films.

In fashion gothic often makes people look intriguing, powerful, mysterious and perhaps that's one reason why it's so popular.
